Mr. Pierre Balmain was born in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in
Savoie, on May 18 in 1914 and died in Paris on June 29 in 1982.
In the beginning Pierre Balmain studied to become an architect,
but soon he discovered his passion for fashion and worked for both
Molyneux and Lucien LeLong before he founded "La Maison Pierre
Balmain" in Paris in 1945.
"La Maison Pierre Balmain" became famous for "The New Look",
dresses in very exclusive materials with a lot of gold and
embroideries.
Today "La Maison Balmain" no longer produces haute-couture, but
exclusively prêt-à-porter and since 2009 the chief-designer of
Balmain is the Young French Olivier Rousteing who graduated from
L'École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (ESMOD) in
2003.
